Living well with depression & bipolar disorder
Dr Patrick McKeon has worked at St Patrick’s Mental Health Services as a consultant psychiatrist since 1981, and was appointed medical director in 2001. Through his work as a consultant psychiatrist, he and a group of interested patients and relatives identified the need for emotional support as well as factual information for those experiencing depression and bipolar disorder, which led to the establishment of the Mood Disorder Fellowship in 1985, renamed ‘Aware’ in 1987. Over the years, he has served on the Board, as Clinical Advisor to Aware and is currently a member of the Clinical Committee. He has also held posts as senior lecturer in psychiatry and Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin.
