After having her first episode at age 11, Sinéad received her diagnosis of bipolar 2 at the age of 21 while at university. It took ten years for her to get to a stage in recovery where she could think about starting a family. Nearly a decade on from her diagnosis, Sinéad began the almost two-year process of reducing medication to prepare for pregnancy.
Sinéad works as an Education & Policy Officer within the mental health sector, and has been a volunteer on the Aware Support Mail service since 2017. She is also a mental health ambassador and spokesperson. The lack of conversation about the process women living with a mental illness go through before even becoming pregnant has motivated Sinéad to speak openly about her own experience.
